Program evaluation: Assessment design, statistical
analyses, and analysis presentation

a. Assessment design
LaGuardia’s academic program evaluation cycle calls for
approximately five program evaluations per year. An analyst or a
team of IR analysts is assigned to work with the department or
program. The analysts meet with members of the department or
program to discuss ways of assessing the academic program and
the data required for the assessment. Program design begins with
a standard template of information used by all departments as
part of program evaluation and builds other measures to suit the
needs and specialties of the department.
b. Statistical analyses
IR can provide enrollment analyses, graduation, transfer and
retention rates, analyses by subcategories of students, course
enrollment histories and course grading histories.
c. Analysis presentation
IR analysts help the department present the results of the
analyses in ways that best communicate program strengths and
areas for improvement
